Secure connections with Ultr @ VNC

For all directors is very handy to have a remote access to their vnc systems. Ultr @ vnc, which I introduced here, is a great utility with many features, geared to Windows users. The approach is “a la PCAnywhere”, unlike the Windows remote desktop connection. Species may be useful in some cases: for example, when the other side there is someone who should see what we do, or when you want to interact with the shell of Lotus Domino (and do not want to use the live console).
Since Ultr @ vnc allows full access, the security implications must be understood and properly managed.

Ultr @ vnc communicates “clear”, which means that communications are not encrypted by default. In theory, an attacker who had access to communication between a server and a client Ultr @ vnc, might steal session data.
There are two main implications to be considered, using Ultr @ vnc in an environment where security is important:

* Encryption – Encrypted communication make the interception of data much more dificult
* Authentication “strong” – Provides a mechanism to determine with greater certainty (more than just the password), that only authorized clients can connect to the server.

Virtual Network Computing (vnc)

vnc is an acronym that stands for Virtual Network Computing: is a program that allows you to control a remote computer through any type of network. In very simple terms VNC does is to connect two computers directly configured appropriately giving the ability to control, by one of two machines, the remote computer as if you were physically sitting in front of it, used if you want the GUI , mouse, and everything that you can access with the privileges of the user with which you connect to the remote machine.

vnc was initially developed by Olivetti before being sold to research laboratories in Cambridge by AT & T, but the mass distribution of the program only came with vnc the birth of the project RealVNC was born as an offshoot of the original project and then be developed in a manner autonomously. Today there are several versions of VNC such as the previously mentioned RealVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC, etc.. The program is available for all types of operating systems and for almost all types of hardware architectures.

The implementation of vnc environments for GNU / Linux is based on Xvnc, a server software that does not connect to a real X display, but uses a dummy X11 session to which multiple clients can connect. It should be noted that X already offers the ability to natively run a program on a computer displaying the windows in the X servant of another computer. vnc, unlike this implementation, allows connection to a GNU / Linux, even from another machine that does not have an X server installed, for example, a PC with Windows. In addition to any VNC client is great is a little more than a few hundred KB (can be conveniently contained in a floppy disk) and requires a configuration very easy to do.

x11vnc is the version of ‘vnc‘ for GNU / Linux I chose for my install Debian GNU / Linux and where you will find a guide to using the base in these pages.

Jaadu VNC : Check the PC or Mac from the iPhone

Jaadu vnc is a great application that lets you view your desktop and fully manage a PC or Mac via vnc server.

Jaadu vnc to have complete control of our computer we can see your desktop, control the mouse to open windows and applications, have access to the keyboard or specific keys (on the Mac, for example, the option button or cmd to ctrl on Windows -alt-del).

What is needed is that the iPhone and computer are connected to the same WiFi network, but it is also possible to connect via 3G iPhone to any computer in the world that we know Name, IP and password (and on which it is installed a vnc server), set by clicking the “+” from Jaadu.

Jaadu also allows you to effectively control PowerPoint presentations via the vnc appropriate arrows or use all the commands useful for multimedia programs such as iTunes, Windows Media Player or Quick Player.

To use Jaadu on Windows you must install TightVNC Server and follow this simple guide, while Mac is sufficient to enable the Screen Sharing item share settings.

Now you just need to open Jaadu VNC iPhone to automatically display the computers on vnc.

To use Jaadu from anywhere in the world, you must install Jaadu Connect on your computer (Windows – Mac) and manually set the parameters of the computer we want to connect.

There is also a cheaper version of the program (7.99 euros), Jaadu VNC Click, who has all the functions of Jaadu VNC, except for the control of the keyboard.

Jaadu VNC is the best program to remotely manage any computer, and although there are cheaper alternatives on the AppStore (as Mocha VNC), this remains the best for stability and added features.

VNC Airemote II Remote Control – Available on App Store

Airemote II Remote Control is an application that allows you to remotely control your computer via WiFi. The application is compatible with both iPhone and iPad and of course the iPod Touch.

There are many applications on the App Store that let you remotely control your Mac, but none allows customization of the control comparable to that of Airemote II. The application allows, in fact, many customizations so you can shape the behavior of the app based on user vnc needs. Among the permitted changes are the addition of buttons, their removal, the selection of colors and images. You can also change the background color by choosing from a series of images inside the application itself, or from the library of your device.

The application also lets you view the screen of your computer and control the mouse pointer in its major actions such as movement, click, drag and drop, selection, etc..

Airemote II Remote Control lets you take control of your Mac without the need to install any application, but using the protocol already available on Mac OS X. Then you just have to give the proper permissions to your application using the System Preferences panel.

The main features available to you:

* Instantly connect with any Mac or PC (Windows or Linux).
* The connection can be done through the Wifi network, or via the cellular data network (be careful if you could only work under vBulletin WiFi)
* Highly customizable interface
* Does not require any additional software on the monitored computer (or better, Mac OS X there are no problems because the vnc protocol is natively supported, while Windows may be necessary to install any vnc server for free, even under the system Linux is no problem).

Using the vnc protocol is not possible to stream video or audio streams.

VNC, how to control a remote PC using the Nokia N900

For those who can not stay away from your PC, here’s a helpful tutorial that explains how to control and administer it remotely (via internet or intranet)
using the Nokia N900.

The program will use that route to connect the two devices is called vnc (Virtual Network Computing), which consists of a Server and a Client,
we’re going to install respectively on the PC and Nokia N900.

Installing vnc Server on your PC

Download vnc Server on the computer to be controlled from this page. You will be asked to complete a small registration form,
is not anything serious or complicated but if you want you can skip this step by clicking on the button that says “Proceed to download”.

After starting the installation, pay attention to these screens:

Here you have to deselect the “Viewer” and leave the check to “Server” and the next screen you must remove all the selections and 2.

Configure the program:

On the computer, the menu ‘Start \ Programs’, navigate to the program and select vnc “VNC Server 4 (user mode)”

Then open the “Configure user settings mode” and make sure the No button is selected and press OK autentication.

Now open the program Run vnc server located vnc in the same folder and choose to ‘unlock’ the program when the firewall shall require it.
In the case you have accidentally blocked access to the Windows Firewall control panel and check the entry for VNC Server as an exception.

From the command prompt (Start Menu \ Run) type “cmd / k ipconfig / all” to retrieve the IP address assigned to your computer. Or go to this site to know.

Configuring vnc Client on Nokia N900

After you have installed the vnc Viewer on the Nokia N900, and start it on the first screen where it asked for the “VNC SERVER”
insert the address retrieved in the previous phase.

Important! Both the Nokia N900 that the computer must be connected to the network in order to proceed.

VNC: how to manage servers remotely

We begin by clarifying that with vnc does not mean a particular program, but a category of programs that allow remote control of a computer.
The acronym stands for Virtual Network Computing vnc and the common feature is the use of such software RFB protocol, Remote Frame Buffer.
In this article we use a vnc server on a Linux system on a Windows system. The information provided will be helpful, however, in any case configuration.

The scheme is simple: on the one hand to control the computer on which to install the vnc server, the computer controlling the other hand using the client component,
the so-called viewer. The two machines can be connected via a private LAN or through the public Internet.
In the latter case the work is likely to be more burdensome for the need to configure other devices such as firewalls and routers.

If the workstation client establishes a connection to the server will see the desktop of the vnc remote machine in a window of the program.
We can act on it directly with your keyboard and mouse as if we were our physically sitting at the computer.
The cool thing about this is that the operating systems involved in communication can be different: Linux, Windows or MacOSX.
We could control a Windows 2003 server on our Linux box, or, conversely, a Linux server from a Windows XP station.

Discover the VNC client built into every Mac Free

If you read the article on vnc client free for all major operating systems, you’ll quickly realize that Mac OS X does not offer the wide selection they offer other operating systems (Linux in particular), and that in fact most of the software outstanding are paid.

Well, what (perhaps) did not know is that Mac OS X has everything you need to connect to a vnc server and therefore does not require third-party applications (except vnc special needs, that is).

Those jokers Cupertino fact have taken steps to integrate the default vnc client, but they thought it best to leave it in the shade, away from prying eyes. However, given the usefulness of the application to see how the case has cast it as necessary and put on display between applications. All this after having admired this
